Activated Carbon Filter Systems
Activated carbon filters capture free chlorine, chlorine compounds, trihalomethanes, pesticides and organic matter by adsorption on a porous carbon surface, improving the taste and odour of the water. In industrial plants their critical role is membrane protection: reverse osmosis membranes are sensitive to free chlorine, and concentrations above 1 ppm damage them permanently. Placing an activated carbon filter ahead of the RO system removes that risk. Our systems use coconut shell or coal-based granular activated carbon, with iodine number and bed contact time selected per application. An automatic backwash valve regularly fluffs the bed to prevent channelling and extend carbon life.
Features
Why Activated Carbon?
Reduces free chlorine below 0.05 ppm
Protects RO membranes from chlorine damage
Removes odour, taste and colour
Automatic backwash prevents channelling
Coconut shell or coal-based carbon options
Food-contact approved materials
How It Works
Treatment Stages
Inlet Distribution
Water is distributed evenly across the bed surface.
Adsorption Bed
Chlorine, organics and odour are held in the carbon pores.
Collection and Outlet
Treated water is collected by the lower manifold.
Automatic Backwash
The bed is fluffed and captured particles are discharged.
